Trends of Chinese herbal medicine industry

The Plan for the Protection and Development of Chinese Medicinal Materials (2015-2020) calls for "extending the industrial chain to the producing areas of Chinese medicinal materials". It promotes the increasingly close connection between processing enterprises and production areas, and many listed companies have settled production areas in various forms [20]. At the same time, the government has increased the quality supervision of TCM decoction pieces, prompting the production enterprises of decoction pieces to continuously increase the input in the planting and primary processing of TCM to ensure the quality. In actual production, the simple individual production of farmers is not conducive to the promotion of technology and effective quality control of Chinese medicinal materials, nor is it conducive to the realization of the development goal of "orderly, safe and effective" of the industry, so family farms, professional cooperatives and planting companies are becoming the backbone of Chinese medicinal materials cultivation. By 2020, hubei province alone had more than 4,000 Chinese herbal medicine planting enterprises (cooperatives), further optimizing the vertical organizational form of Chinese herbal medicine production.

Chinese herbal medicine brand building into the fast lane. In 2019, CMA launched the "Action Plan of Chinese Traditional Medicine Brands", released 8 Authentic Chinese herbal medicine brands, 2 ecological and green Chinese herbal medicine brands, and launched the Cluster development alliance of Chinese traditional Medicine brands.
